InSb(001) surface prepared by ion sputtering and thermal annealing has been studied in the temperature range from 77K up to 300K using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Gold nanowires a few atomic diameters wide were created by hitting a gold wire against a flat surface of a gold sample placed on a piezostack.
