Porous carbon membrane plates (PCMPs) for pervaporation applications were prepared by carbonizing phenol resin powder. The plates formed were found to be effective in separating benzene from azeotropic benzene-cyclohexane mixtures. The plates were stable in concentrated acid solution and maintained their good separation properties.
