A bidirectional fiber-IVLLC and fiber-wireless convergence system based on two orthogonally polarized optical sidebands for hybrid CATV/MMW/BB signal transmission is proposed and demonstrated. Two orthogonally polarized optical sidebands are transmitted over a 40-km SMF transport to effectively reduce the fiber dispersion and the distortion. The approach presented in this work signifies the advancements...
We demonstrate an on-chip optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) using two cascade optical ring resonators. The OSA's span is wider than 50nm and resolution is ∼0.1nm. A germanium photodetector and a p-i-n modulator are integrated on the chip and used for detection.
We demonstrate gas sensing using silica high-mesa waveguide for the first time. A 4.5cm length waveguide show CO2 sensing at a wavelength of λ=1572nm with rapid sensing speed of below 15µs successfully.
We demonstrate a photonic logic gate for RZ-PolSK signals based on bidirectional FWM in HNLF. Multi-function, such as XOR, ̄AB, ̄AB, XNOR, AND, NOR, half-subtracter, half-adder, comparator and decoder, are simultaneously implemented.
The automated detection of diabetic retinopathy and other eye diseases in images of the retina has great promise as a low-cost method for broad-based screening. Many systems in the literature which perform automated detection include a quality estimation step and physiological feature detection, including the vascular tree and the optic nerve / macula location. In this work, we study the robustness...
We review our work on silicon wire devices designed for evanescent field sensor arrays and ultra-compact dense optical comb filters, both taking advantage of a spiral cavity resonator design. Two sensor array configurations are described, and monitoring of biomolecular binding is demonstrated with a detection limit of 0.3 pg/mm2. On-chip temperature drift compensation is achieved by using a reference...
Wave breaking of similariton in all-normal-dispersion (ANDi) fiber lasers is studied theoretically and experimentally. The nonlinear intra-cavity spectral filtering balance becomes unstable with greatly-decreased ASE noise tolerance under excessive nonlinearity, and then wave breaking occurs.
A scheme to simultaneously realize UWB monocycle pulse generation and frequency up-conversion using FWM effect in a 60-meter HNL-PCF is experimentally demonstrated. Two baseband and two frequency up-converted signals are obtained for UWB-over-fiber systems.
