Motivation is the driving force that influences people's behaviors and interacts with many cognitive functions. Computationally, motivation is represented as a cost−benefit analysis that weighs efforts and rewards in order to choose the optimal actions. Shenhav and colleagues proposed an elegant theory, the Expected Value of Control (EVC), which describes the relationship between cognitive efforts,...
This paper proposes an Adaptive Dynamic Causal Modelling based approach to detect and quantify effective connectivity in human brain structures injured by epileptic activities. The identification of the parameters in the physiology based model subtended the Electroencephalographic observations is performed by improving the optimization step in the Expectation Maximization algorithm. Considering unidirectional...
With the rapid development of the Smart Power Bulk Transmission Systems, single-core power cables above 110 kV are used more and more widely. The circulating current, generated on the cable metal sheath, brings additional loss to the cable metal sheath and makes cable safe operation life shortened. This paper studied and analyzed how circulating current on the metal sheath of single-core cables varied...
The context of this work is the analysis of depth electroencephalographic signals recorded with depth electrodes during seizures in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. Usually, different phases are observed during the seizure process and we aim to determine how cerebral structures get involved during these phases, in particular whether some structures can “drive” other ones. To this end, we consider...
This study proposes a node-aware distributed simulation system for accelerating production simulation. To optimize simulation performance, this system proposes the performance-surveying module and the node-invoking module based on a MapReduce parallel framework to dynamically invoke valuable nodes during simulation. The performance-surveying module periodically records each node performance and ranks...
As an important information portal, online healthcare forum are playing an increasingly crucial role in disseminating information and offering support to people. It connects people with the leading medical experts and others who have similar experiences. During an epidemic outbreak, such as H1N1, it is critical for the health department to understand how the public is responding to the ongoing pandemic,...
This paper addresses the detection and segmentation of vascular myocytes. The detection and segmentation of these cells are critical to the investigation of atherosclerosis among other cardiovascular diseases. Our approach to detection is unique in that it attempts to compute the underlying external energy in an active contour model. Isolines in this computed external energy can be employed to localize...
Numerical simulations of an InGaN-based solar cell with embedded Ag nanoparticles in the absorption layer show significant efficiency increase through surface plasmon induced absorption enhancement. Carrier transport blocking by the embedded nanoparticles affects little the efficiency. An increase of 19% in maximum output power density is demonstrated.
