A novel configuration operating at 1550 nm based on silicon-on-insulator substrate is proposed for side-lobes suppression of a dielectric optical nanoantenna. The proposed configuration consists of reflection gratings which can reflect the downward light back. By using this configuration, the side-lobe level can be improved by 12.78 dB.
Recognizing arbitrary objects in the wild has been a challenging problem due to the limitations of existing classification models and datasets. In this paper, we propose a new task that aims at parsing scenes with a large and open vocabulary, and several evaluation metrics are explored for this problem. Our approach is a joint image pixel and word concept embeddings framework, where word concepts...
With the popularization of intelligent navigation system on electric vehicles, it's possible to obtain real-time distribution of electric vehicles in a given region. Based on traffic flow model and M/M/s queuing theory, this paper presents a mathematical model for the prediction of charging load at charging station. To get the charging distribution generated in the driving process, an optimal path...
Scene parsing, or recognizing and segmenting objects and stuff in an image, is one of the key problems in computer vision. Despite the communitys efforts in data collection, there are still few image datasets covering a wide range of scenes and object categories with dense and detailed annotations for scene parsing. In this paper, we introduce and analyze the ADE20K dataset, spanning diverse annotations...
This study proposes a new car-following (CF) model that considers the effect of electronic throttle (ET) opening angle under the non-lane-discipline road system. In particular, the effects of ET opening angle and lateral gap are incorporated in the CF model simultaneously. The stability analysis of the proposed CF model is performed using the perturbation method to obtain the stability condition....
In this paper, a hand gesture based control design is proposed for mobile robots. Mobile robots can move according to the control signals encoded by hand gestures. The gesture region is segmented from complicated background and the gestures are recognized by using some techniques such as image processing, image filtering processing, morphological image processing, image contour processing, etc. Then...
Duckietown is an open, inexpensive and flexible platform for autonomy education and research. The platform comprises small autonomous vehicles (“Duckiebots”) built from off-the-shelf components, and cities (“Duckietowns”) complete with roads, signage, traffic lights, obstacles, and citizens (duckies) in need of transportation. The Duckietown platform offers a wide range of functionalities at a low...
A tunable dual-mode operation with three-section distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser is proposed for compact and low-cost microwave generation. Stable dual-mode operation with 7 nm tuning range is demonstrated.
Although it is easier to acquire knowledge from structured or unstructured data with NLP (Nature Language Processing) and Machine Learning techniques, it is still difficult to exclude logic errors using reinforcement learning on ontology construction. Ontology reduction is a key step when a learner agent removes the knowledge from the existing ontology in the process ontology learning. This proposal...
Nowadays, we're all familiar with the speed of e-commerce development, but we have to admit that logistics industry in rural areas is still in its infancy. As deficient rural logistics network has restricted the rural development to a certain extent, this research field becomes a hot topic. However, most existing papers on forward and reverse logistics network design were primarily concerned with...
Nowadays, due to advantages of maneuverability, portability and low cost, the mini quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) catches much attention. In some special applications such as narrow space search, stealth detection and cooperative detection in huge region, the mini quadrotor UAV is more suitable than a big one. However, light weight and mini size lead to phenomenon that it is hard for mini...
Ontology learning has become a popular research field recently. But most ontology construction methods are semiautomatic, and the construction process of ontology is still a tedious and painstaking task. The cognitive model of ontology learning is an automatic model of ontology construction that simulates the process of human being recognizing the world. Induction is an important step of the model...
As a kind of knowledge description methods, ontology has been used in reasoning related field to obtain more reasonable results, such as Semantic Web, Decision Support System, Data Integration etc. However, the construction of the ontology is still a time-consuming work for the experts. Although there are many ontology learning methods to acquire ontology from structured or unstructured data, it is...
Autonomous ontology learning is a critical task to reduce the cost of ontology construction for knowledge based systems. This paper provides a cognitive model for ontology learning system, which aims to develop a novel model for knowledge structuring based on the interaction between the process of ontology construction and cognitive psychology. During cognitive process, we simulate human's cognitive...
It is important to establish reliability analysis model of secondary system for the intelligent substation. In this paper, a method is proposed to evaluate the reliability of secondary system in smart substation. Firstly, according to the reliability indices of secondary system structures for different smart substations, the evaluation matrix are determined and the matrix can be orthogonalized to...
We propose a novel chirp compensation scheme for directly modulated 3s-DBR lasers in TWDM-PON to realize long reach dispersion-tolerant uplink. Extensive numerical simulations are carried out to demonstrate its effectiveness..
This paper presents a novel framework to extend the dynamic range of images called Unbounded High Dynamic Range (UHDR) photography with a modulo camera. A modulo camera could theoretically take unbounded radiance levels by keeping only the least significant bits. We show that with limited bit depth, very high radiance levels can be recovered from a single modulus image with our newly proposed unwrapping...
Through Silicon Via (TSV) is now becoming one of the most critical and enabling technologies for 3-D integration.Vertical interconnection of several chips offered by TSV will result in improved performance and functionality, miniaturization in size and weight and reduced power consumption. Cu as TSV filling material is well used in the traditional damascene process. In this work, Cu seed deposition...
In this paper, we present measurement results of material penetration loss and reflection coefficient as a function of antenna polarization at 5.8 GHz. The measurements were made in a typical building hallway with a variety of test materials. This is a unique measurement campaign because the same antenna apertures were used to create three different types of polarizations: linear, circular polarized,...
In this paper, we propose a sensitive and robust reputation system for service grid environments. A punishment factor is introduced to express the subjective opinion of evaluators and destroy the reputation of bad performers rapidly, which improves the sensitivity of the reputation system. By evaluating the reputation of recommenders, our solution filters out dishonest recommendations during the process...
