In this paper, we report our development experience and experimentation studies of two multicast routing schemes for the Internet, namely, PIM-SSM and GCMR. We detail their implementation over the Quagga open source routing suite, as well as their experimentation tests over a large-scale topology that reproduces the Internet characteristics.
Failing to account for the set of links affected by a simultaneous dependent failure during the re-computation of the routing table entries leads to traffic losses until all failed links have been accounted in the re-computation of these entries. Instead, if the router learns about the existence of Shared Risk Link Groups (SRLGs) from the arriving pattern link state routing information, then decisions...
Ethernet is transforming from a LAN network solution into a technology which can be used within a carrier network. Ethernet is currently especially envisaged within the metro part of the network as a cost efficient replacement of ATM/FR and SDH. This step requires additional functionality built into the Ethernet technology in order to maintain operability and reliability of the network. Considering...
Last decades bridged Ethernet has been the de facto standard layer 2 technology for LAN environments. This is mainly because it is easy to deploy, it has low cost and is relatively robust. These attractive properties together with highly increasing PHY speeds result in several initiatives of research projects and standardization bodies to extend Ethernet such as to use the technology in carrier environments...
