The characteristics of coupled-core multi-core fibers (CC-MCF) are reviewed. Random mode coupling and low differential group delay properties of the CC-MCF are discussed, and relationships between differential modal group delay, bends, and twists are also investigated.
We experimentally demonstrate 6×6 coherent multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) crosstalk mitigation after simultaneous transmission of 3 spatially multiplexed 112-Gb/s PDM-QPSK channels over 24 km of a strongly-coupled 3-core fiber. The crosstalk in the fiber is about −4 dB and is almost completely canceled by MIMO processing.
We demonstrate the record capacity of 16 Tb/s unrepeated transmission over 240 km of large-Aeff fibre without remote optical pre-amplifier using 50 GHz-spaced 224 Gb/s DP-16QAM, corresponding to record capacity-distance product of 3.84 Pb/s·km.
