Accidents between battery-operated vehicles and pedestrians are expected to increase as electric vehicles (EV) or plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHV) are widely used in near future because of small ambient noise of EV/PHV. To prevent such accidents, a portable alert system for pedestrians to detect approaching vehicle is proposed in this paper. The alert system exploits ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR)...
Lateral distance between two traffic participants is an important context for intelligent transportation systems for realizing a collision prediction system. Obtaining lateral distance requires costly hardware, prohibiting traffic participants such as pedestrians and/or bicyclists to receive benefits of lateral distance information for securing their safety. In this paper, a time-of-arrival (TOA)...
Experimental demonstration of a 24 GHz-band ultra wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) pulse generation has been reported. The generated UWB-IR pulse has 24.7 GHz of a center frequency and 9.4 GHz of a -10 dB bandwidth.
Thanks to excess pre-compensation of chromatic dispersion and a custom UWB antenna with a band-pass characteristic, fully FCC-compliant and dispersion tolerant UWB-IR-over-fiber transmission is experimentally demonstrated for the first time.
This paper presents a high-throughput and highly-reliable baseband processor LSI based on LDPC coding OFDM UWB. This LSI targets for wireless LAN systems inside a car which enable to translate a high-resolution video under noisy environment. A chip capable of operating at 147 MHz was fabricated using UMC 0.13 mum 1P8M CMOS technology. By adopting the OFDM modulation with 1024 sub-carriers, it achieves...
An experimental demonstration of a fully FCC-compliant UWB-IR signal generation has been reported. Slightly modified Gaussian doublet pulses were used to make a notch in the GPS band. Estimated EIRP spectra have been well-matched to the FCC indoor spectrum mask.
A full experimental demonstration of a UWB-IR-over-fiber system, including BER measurements after radio transmission, is reported. The BER at 255.8Mbit/s was almost 10-3 under the maximum EIRP of -41.3dBm/MHz defined by the FCC. copy2008 Optical Society of America.
