In this paper, we propose a novel optical notch filtering scheme, which can be used for optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring. OSNR monitoring for 10-Gb/s and 40-Gb/s NRZ-OOK, NRZ-DPSK and Duo-binary signals are demonstrated in VPI transmission maker 7.6. Low bandwidth photo detector adopted in the monitoring scheme would provide immunity to chromatic dispersion (CD) and low cost solution.
In this paper, we propose a simple in-band optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring method based on the beat noise RF power measurement. This method splits the incoming optical signal into two branches, and one of the branches is processed by an optical band pass filter. Then, the signals in the two branches are detected by balanced receiver and the beat noise can be calculated. The simulation...
In this paper, we summarize two chromatic dispersion monitoring techniques in high-speed transmission systems (> 40-Gbit/s). One method is based on optical filtering and RF spectrum analysis. The other one utilizes delay-tap sampling.
Chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) monitoring methods based on RF spectrum analysis are demonstrated experimentally. By using a narrow band FBG notch filter, centered at optical carrier/10GHz away from carrier, corresponding RF power ratio/power can be used as CD/PMD monitoring signal in high-speed optical communication systems such as 57-Gbit/s D8PSK.
We demonstrate a simple chromatic dispersion (CD) monitoring method using amplitude ratio of asynchronous delay-tap sampling plot. By utilizing amplitude ratio in the delay-tap sampling plot, the residual CD values in the range of 0~75 ps/nm can be measured for 40-Gbit/s 67% carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ) differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK), 50% return-to-zero (RZ) DQPSK and...
In this paper, we propose a chromatic dispersion (CD) monitoring technique based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) filtering and RF power ratio measurement. This method can measure CD value without the effects of polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) and received power for non-return-to-zero (NRZ) phase-modulated signals. A narrowband FBG notch filter is placed at the optical carrier wavelength, such that...
We propose and demonstrate a technique on chromatic dispersion (CD) insensitive polarization mode dispersion (PMD) monitoring based on RF tone power measurement using a narrow band fiber Bragg grating (FBG) notch filter. By filtering out the optical component at 10-GHz (1/4 of the bit rate) away from the carrier in one sideband, the RF tone generated by beating between the carrier and the component...
