This paper aims at providing the current design status of the ANTARES operational system, presenting an overview of the end-to-end system architecture. It also intends to describe the verification approach of a new Communication Standard, for ATM Satellite-based data link through the use of a dedicated test bed, providing an overview of the test campaign results
MPI is the traditional paradigm to parallelize applications for High Performance Computing environments. AzequiaMPI is an implementation of the MPI-1.3 standard. Its thread-based architecture enables it to run on high-end HPC machines as well as on embedded environments as soft-core processor in FPGAs. This article describes the experience of building a maintainable cluster of fourteen popular Xilinx...
The popularity of P2P networks makes them an attractive target for hackers. Potential vulnerabilities in the software used in P2P networking represent a big threat for users and the whole community. To prevent and mitigate the risks, intrusion detection techniques have been traditionally applied. In this work in progress, a Markov based technique is applied to the detection of anomalies in the usage...
The great impact and growth of P2P networks in recent years make them an interesting target for hackers. But the development of P2P is aimed at improving the behavior of the networks, in computational terms, or to hide the transactions from observers. Security in P2P networks has been usually undervalued and not taken into account. This paper tries to highlight the major topics and challenges regarding...
Electric cardioversion is the most effective therapy for restoring sinus rhythm in patient with atrial fibrillation (AF), however, there is not a guiding criteria for advising on when and in whom it will be successful. The objective of this study was to employ frequency analysis on the surface electrocardiogram (ECG) to predict the outcome of low energy internal cardioversion in patients with AF....
This paper describes a lighting network proposal, named LightNet, for remote monitoring and controlling of lighting nodes, being lighting lamps and local environment sensors. The network is based on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus protocol. The LightNet was experimentally implemented using CAN 2.0A with only six network node, but the proposal can be expanded up to 2048 nodes. The LightNet system...
This paper describes a new embedded system based on CAN bus protocol for remote monitoring and controlling of lighting networks, where the network nodes are lighting lamps and environment sensors. The main characteristic of the embedded system is its non-master capability, allowing interesting applications such as: light dimming control of a single lamp, or a group one, through one lighting network...
A digitally addressable digital dimming electronic ballast based on the CAN Bus protocol has been developed. The ballast is a basic lighting component of a novel lighting system proposed for this work based on this protocol. A digital dimming electronic ballast design, a lighting system structure scheme based on CAN Bus and a software platform to control the ballast by a personal computer are presented.
