Since the user is generally in the near field On-body antennas are accepted as more complex to optimise than their free space counterparts. Use of the body as a platform for wearable electronics is a topical subject. Omnidirectional antennas are thought to be useful for antennas in body area networks. However, the desirable properties of omnidirectional radiation patterns close to humans are severely...
This paper presents the recent advances in sources and imaging arrays for >100 GHz applications. For sources, multiplier approach has recently demonstrated 1 mW of power at 200 GHz using 45 nm CMOS technology. For active imaging arrays, high-efficiency on-chip antennas coupled with low-noise CMOS SOI detectors are built at 300 GHz and 1 THz for low NEP systems.
This paper presents a W-band on-chip elliptical slot antenna fabricated in the IBM CMOS8RF (0.13 µm) process. This antenna has a measured efficiency of 7% and a measured gain of −5.7 dB at 88 – 90 GHz. The measured impedance bandwidth is 3.1%. Although it is not efficient as a standalone element for RFIC applications, the elliptical slot is very promising as a feed for an extended hemispherical lens...
A standard TV broadcast IOT from e2v technologies can easily be fitted into a tuneable circuit adapted for CW or pulsed applications enabling pulse peak powers up to 140 kW or CW powers up to 80 kW to be achieved over a frequency range of 400 MHz to 810 MHz. The IOTD2130 was first introduced for TV broadcasting in 1999 and is now used worldwide in both analogue and digital transmission applications...
Specific instances of project-based classes, capstone course(s), and student work are considered. Evaluations are undertaken and understanding gained of: beneficiaries and benefits, constraints, risks and challenges, and resources needed and actually provided.
