We present a suite of silica-based thulium-doped fiber amplifiers (TDFAs) operating across the 1650–2050nm waveband. High gain and low NF are achieved by combining several TDFA designs optimized for short, central and long wavelength operation.
We report the realization of a wideband holmium doped fiber amplifier designed for optical communications over 2050 – 2130 nm, providing up to 28 dB small signal gain and 4 – 9.5 dB noise figure.
We report the first demonstration of in-band diode-pumped silica-based thulium-doped fiber amplifiers working in the 1.7–1.8 μm waveband. Compared to previously reported results, 90 nm gain extension has been achieved by exploiting novel amplifier designs.
We report a novel OFDM-transmitter operating in the emerging 2-μm waveband. Sub-FEC limit transmission of a 32QAM signal over 500m of both solid and hollow-core fiber was achieved and the generation of 30Gbits 64QAM demonstrated.
We report the first demonstration of an inline two mode group thulium-doped fiber amplifier (TMG-TDFA) operating at 2µm for mode-division multiplexed transmission. Similar gain and noise figure performance are obtained for both spatial modes under cladding-pumped operation.
High power fibre laser sources in the 2 μm wavelength region with picosecond-scale pulse durations have attractive applications such as materials processing, eye-safe radar and nonlinear frequency conversion to mid-infrared wavelengths. Current implementations are typically based on the amplification of picosecond pulses obtained from a mode-locked oscillator, and pulse energies of several hundred...
World's first demonstration of WDM transmission in a HC-PBGF at the predicted low loss region of 2μm is presented. A total capacity of 16 Gbit/s is achieved using 1×8.5 Gbit/s and 3×2.5 Gbit/s channels modulated using NRZ OOK over 290 meters of hollow core fiber.
