The development of 100 Gb/s transponder technology is progressing rapidly to meet the needs of next-generation optical/IP carrier networks. In this paper, we describe the upgrade of an installed 10 Gb/s field system to 100 Gb/s using a real-time single-carrier, coherent 100 Gb/s polarization-multiplexed quadrature-phase-shift keyed channel. Performance sufficient for error-free operation after forward-error-correction...
This paper describes experimental demonstration of 50GHz ROADM tolerance for a realtime, single-carrier, 127-Gb/s coherent PM-QPSK system. 10 WSSs are cascaded over 1000km NDSF and <;0.5dB OSNR penalty is measured for the worst case. Cascading limit is also predicted.
We generate fully spatially coherent soft x-ray beams in the water window region of the spectrum using phase matched high harmonic upconversion of a 2 µm driving laser.
We demonstrate experimentally penalty-free transmission of 127-Gb/s coherent PM-QPSK signals through 10 cascaded 50-GHz commercial WSS over 1500-km SMF. Simulation results show that more than 40 cascades of such 50-GHz liquid-crystal based WSS is feasible.
Internet-scale dissemination of streaming contents (e.g., live sports games) can be achieved by infrastructure-based overlay multicast networks, where multicast service providers deliver the contents via dedicated servers strategically placed over the Internet. Given the huge amount of data traffic, one of the major operation costs is the ISP cost for network access. However, existing overlay multicast...
System functionalities of matched filtering, channel banding, and wavelength demultiplexing are demonstrated using a unique MEMS-actuated microdisk resonator filter with dynamically tunable bandwidth. Error free operation of demultiplexed channel is realized.
