Wavefront distortions induced in various silica samples by a 2 μm thulium fiber laser were measured. Absorption of silica at 2 μm makes a full characterization of thermal lensing critical for high power applications.
Two thulium fiber laser configurations are described providing widely tunable and narrow linewidth output. We show that such systems can produce average powers greater than 100 W.
A narrow linewidth thulium fiber laser is tuned from 1945 – 2090 nm to investigate atmospheric transmission at 1 km. Results confirm simulations with high transmission >2025 nm and strong atmospheric absorption <1960 nm.
