Employing a nanotube-based saturable absorber, we demonstrate a continuously tunable (1533–1563nm) ultrafast fiber laser, with output pulsewidth switchable between picosecond (1.2 ps) and femtosecond (610 fs) regimes.
We demonstrate gain-guided dissipative soliton operation of a linearly polarized Yb-doped fiber laser, mode-locked by carbon nanotubes. In the regime of low nonlinear phase shift per cavity roundtrip, a dissipative soliton pulse can be supported by the finite gain bandwidth, without the need for strong spectral selection. The gain-guiding dynamics are confirmed by simulations.
Streaming degradable content (such as video or audio) over a wireless channel presents new challenges to modern digital design, which was founded on the separation theorem of Shannon theory. Joint source-channel coding (JSCC) has recently received increasing interest to address the varying nature of the wireless channel conditions (under mobility or multicast). The conventional approach to JSCC which...
A novel “half-perforated” structure is proposed to conceive a dual-band dual-polarized antenna element design, aiming to broaden the impedance bandwidth in the lower band while keeping the antenna profile low. According to the simulations conducted using Ansoft HFSS 11.0, the impedance bandwidth (|S11|≤ −10dB) can be increased to 12.8% in the lower L-band, making it closer to that of the upper C-band...
With the proliferation of the Internet, voice over IP and multimedia communication become more and more important. One of the protocol that facilitated this development is Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). SIP is a signaling protocol which manages the session establishment and termination. It can be based on UDP or TCP at the transport layer. In this paper, the strengths and weaknesses of SIP over...
