Recent progress of microstructured fibers for optical transmission has been described. We demonstrate potentiality of the fiber for future ultra high capacity optical transmission systems, which are not realized with a conventional single-mode fiber
Ultra wide band transmission performance of an endlessly-single mode photonic crystal fiber (PCF) has been demonstrated experimentally using a wavelength range from 850 to 1550 nm, which corresponds to 160 THz, for the first time. 10 Gbit/s based WDM signals with a total capacity of 190 Gbit/s have been successfully transmitted over a low loss PCF.
