Optical properties of Yb:Y3Sc2Al3O12 crystal were investigated and compared with those from Yb:YAG crystals. Laser-diode pumped continuous-wave and passively Q-switched Yb:Y3Sc2Al3O12 lasers with Cr4+:YAG crystal as saturable absorber has been demonstrated for the first time.
Here we report an 1178 nm all Yb-fiber laser source power-scaled by solid-core photonic bandgap fiber (SC-PBGF) for 589 nm generation. A 1.4 W output at 589 nm with an input power of 9 W at 1178 nm were obtained. One important advantage of PBGF is distributed filtering. Hence the gain spectrum can be designed artificially in an active-ion-doped SC-PBGF, desirable for long-wavelength Yb fiber laser...
The photoconductivity of high Yb-concentration YAG and Y2O3 samples has been measured, confirming the occurrence of up-conversion in these materials. High intensity pumping reveals a very broad emission spectrum that exhibits avalanche behaviour.
Nd:Y2O3 ceramic materials have been synthesized using the vacuum sintering technique with the raw materials prepared by the nanocrystalline methods. The TEM measurements reveal the excellent optical quality of the ceramic with low pore volume and narrow grain boundary. The radiative spectral properties of Nd:Y2O 3 ceramic have been evaluated by fitting the Judd-Ofelt model with the absorption and...
