High-power, high-efficiency ytterbium-doped solid-core photonic-bandgap fiber amplification at the long-wavelength edge of the Yb gain band is reported. Amplified-spontaneous-emission-free, 30 W non-polarized and 25 W linearly-polarized 1178 nm outputs have been achieved with <58% slope efficiencies.
This presentation will describe the recent improvements in Yb-fiber laser by applying a converging axicon. The measured results reveal this annular beam has a radial polarization with a polarization extinction ratio in the range from 2.3 to 4.4.
Characteristics of polarization selection in Yb fiber laser by use of birefringent fiber- Bragg gratings are investigated. An 8 W, 1064 nm linearly-polarized fiber laser with 87% slope efficiency and <20 pm bandwidth has been successfully demonstrated.
