Second-order PMD has been successfully mitigated for 80-Gbit/s RZ-DQPSK signals by an all-optical regenerator based on optical parametric amplification. System performance comparison has been made for a conventional polarizer-based PMD compensator.
Simultaneous PMD mitigation by optically clocked reshaper for two-channel 80-Gbit/s RZ-DQPSK signals has been demonstrated using gain saturation effects of optical parametric amplification. The reshaper was applied to mitigate DGD as high as 100 ps.
We have succeeded field trial of GMPLS-based 40-Gbit/s wavelength path protection by photonic crossconnect. An automatic chromatic dispersion compensator was successfully applied to maintain the quality of a signal after protection operation.
The effect of the spontaneous emission noise on coherent systems in a multistage semiconductor laser amplifier repeater system is experimentally examined. By appropriate adjustment of the input power level to each amplifier, 546 km FSK transmission of 140 Mbit/s using 10 cascaded amplifiers is demonstrated without power penalty.<<ETX>>
