We are now developing a prototype of a 3000m-class underwater glider for virtual mooring. The vehicle glides back and forth between the sea surface and the seabed collecting ocean data at a specific point. Hydrodynamic forces acting on the half-sized model were measured to determine the optimal wing shape. These experimental results are shown in this paper.
Electric power storage is an important technology for all equipments of underwater vehicles however environmental pressure is high, the temperature is 5 degrees Celsius or less, and conditions are unsuitable for many chemical reactions in the deep sea. Battery capacity is mainly dependent on its mass; this means that the cruising range of underwater vehicles is proportional to the mass of the battery...
In vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), delivering messages to a specific location is difficult due to the high mobility of vehicles. In this paper, we propose a method for efficient message delivery in VANETs utilizing the route information in car navigation systems. In the proposed method, each car periodically exchanges the information on its current position and scheduled route in the car navigation...
There are concerns about the impact that global warming will have on our environment, and which will inevitably result in expanding deserts and rising water levels. AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicle) were considered and chosen, as the most suitable tool for conduction survey concerning these global environmental problems. JAMSTEC has started to build a long range cruising AUV. The plan for its development...
As more international customers seek to upgrade their tactical land battle forces with modern digital battlefield capabilities, support for cost-effective retrofits supporting tactical battle management capabilities over legacy radios is an increasing need. As the ability to upgrade legacy radios to ones supporting high-speed tactical internet capabilities is often not possible, it is increasingly...
