The present market faces the challenges of mass customization where configuration design can be regarded as a core technology. Considering the fuzziness of customer demands and the complexity of components, configuration design is complex. According to the individual requirements of customers, the great number of product variants can be generated. In order to develop a computer-aided integrated platform...
Realistic surgical simulation should take into account the mechanical properties of soft tissue, and also patient-specific variations. Consequently automated methods are required for the acquisition and modeling of patient-specific tissue properties. We take a step toward this goal by presenting a semiautomated method for acquiring, modeling, and simulating soft-tissue deformation. During a typical...
This paper presents a VR toolkit for path planning and manipulation of nanotube. The toolkit is capable of modeling the interactions between an AFM tip and carbon nanotubes on a substrate surface and generating optimum and safe manipulation paths. In addition, haptic guides were designed to help the user to follow the calculated paths, to avoid obstacles.
Mechanical models for soft organ tissues are necessary for a variety of medical applications, such as surgical planning, virtual reality surgery simulators, and for diagnostic purposes. An adequate quantitative description of the mechanical behavior of tissues requires adequate and accurate experimental data to be acquired and analyzed. We present results of three types of ex vivo tests on pig liver...
