We numerically investigate direct detection of 28- Gbps-class PAM4 signals with receiver-side digital signal processing for bandwidth-efficient short reach optical transmissions, mainly including DD-LMS based linear equalization, 3-tap noise-whitening post filter and BCJR algorithm based MAP detector.
In this paper, we study feedback stabilization of a linear time-invariant (LTI) multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) discrete-time system with information constraints in both the input and output channels, characterized by the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). A signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) constraint model is adopted in studying its communication capacity limits for the underlying MIMO feedback control...
This paper studies feedback stabilization of a linear time-invariant (LTI) discrete-time system with information constraints in the input channels, described by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). A signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) constraint model is adopted in studying its communication capacity limits. Upper and lower bounds of the least capacity are derived for feedback stabilization in both state...
We report for the first time the accurate recovery of as many as nine radio-frequency (RF) components with unknown carriers in the range of 5 to 10 GHz. The maximum error of frequency estimation is 49 kHz. With photonics-assisted compressive sampling (CS), the Nyquist bandwidth of the employed analog-to-digital convertor (ADC) is only one sixth of the RF band under monitoring, which is 826.75 MHz...
We demonstrate a method to realize arbitrary repetition-rate multiplication of 40 GHz optical pulses based on optical spectrum manipulation. The generated 80–320 GHz pulses can well maintain the original pulse shape with uniform amplitude and improved SNR.
Coherence multiplexing (CM) technique for analog signal transmission was proposed but has not been studied comprehensively. In this paper, we investigate RF signal transmission over CM systems (RF over CM) in theory, simulation, and experiments. The transmission performances are analyzed using a single-tone RF signal, and theoretical SNR is developed. It is found that RF over CM systems are limited...
A feedforward carrier phase estimation algorithm using a modified QPSK partition approach followed by maximum-likelihood (ML) detection is proposed. Results demonstrate complexity reduction by more than a factor of 2 compared with other techniques.
Coherence multiplexing (CM) based Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) system is experimentally investigated for the first time for both single tone RF signal and ultra-wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (UWB-OFDM) signal. The impact of received optical power, linewidth of the optical source, input RF power and fiber length are considered. It is found that the system is seriously limited by beat...
