Detection of interesting (e.g., coherent or anomalous) clusters has been studied extensively on plain or univariate networks, with various applications. Recently, algorithms have been extended to networks with multiple attributes for each node in the real-world. In a multi-attributed network, often, a cluster of nodes is only interesting for a subset (subspace) of attributes, andthis type of clusters...
We report on the fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) waveguide coupler in lithium niobate crystal by using femtosecond laser writing based on laser-induced extraordinary index changes of Type I modification. This coupler is used to implement 1×4 beam splitting at 632.8 nm. The numerical simulations of beam evolution are in agreement with the experimental results.
Sleep positions have an impact on sleep quality and therefore need to be further analyzed. Current research on position tracking includes only the four basic positions. In the context of wearable devices, energy efficiency is still an open issue. This research presents a way to detect eight positions with higher granularity under energy efficient constraints. Generalized Matrix Learning Vector Quantization...
Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies create intelligent systems to assist the aging population for a healthier and safer life in their living environment. Such systems usually offer context-aware, personalized and adaptive services. However, these kinds of systems make extensive and intensive use of personal data, which makes privacy protection a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a framework...
This paper investigates the resource allocation problem in heterogeneous cognitive radio networks (HCRNs). In this paper, two types of users, i.e., multi-homing and single-network cognitive radio users (CRUs), are considered to coexist in HCRNs. Multi-homing CRUs can access multiple networks simultaneously, while single-network CRUs can be served by only one network at a time. With the aim of maximizing...
In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), each sensor node can estimate the global parameter from the local data in a distributed manner. This paper proposed a diffusion estimation algorithm based on sub-regions, which are referred to as the SR-DLMS algorithm. The proposed algorithm divides the sensor network into several sub-regions, which used to estimate sub-dimensions of the parameter. Compared with...
For the operation and aerial photography of the UAV, it is important to identify the blindspots and observe the details on the ground. But limited by the camera resolution, small or fuzzy objects can not be effectively observed. Therefore, repairment of high-definition images has become one of the important problems to be solved. In recent years, the development of the deep learning method has effectively...
With the growth of mobile Internet, online health forums become more accessible for patient to health related discussions, subsequently host rich resources of drug-drug interactions (DDIs). However, traditional methods are not feasible for the large volume online data. They are designed for highly structured data sources such as clinical trials and spontaneous reporting systems, whose inherent limitations...
This paper demonstrates sub-10-nanometer (nm) laser ablation on hard materials. An 800-nm-wavelength femtosecond laser is focused down to sub-diffraction-limited scale by a silicon nanophotonic structure fabricated on a silicon-on-isolator (SOI) substrate, which is utilized to enable the ablation on the silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer of the SOI. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) results show a minimum ablation...
More and more pedestrians use mobile phones in daily traffic activities. Using mobile phones makes pedestrians a distraction when they cross the street, thus it's dangerous, especially at unsignalized intersections. This paper aims to find out how the using of mobile phones (such as talking, watching the screen and listening to music) affects the behavior and safety of pedestrians while crossing the...
The legibility of traffic signs in urban tunnels is of great importance on traffic safety. To improve legibility of traffic signs, this paper attempts to assess the siting and layout of LED traffic guide signs by simulation and field tests. First, the test scenarios were built in DIALUX software, where drivers' legibility distance were recorded with regard to twenty-four signs with different colors,...
In the last few years, on-demand ride services boomed worldwide, and different modes of ridesourcing services emerged, too. However, there have been few qualitative and quantitative analyses on these ride service patterns, partially due to the lack or unavailability of detailed on-demand ride service data. In this paper, we analyze the real-world individual-level order and the trip data extracted...
Landslides could cause huge damages to properties and severe loss of lives. Landslides can be detected by analyzing the environment data collected via wireless sensor networks (WSN). However, environment data are usually complex and undergo rapid changes. Thus, if landslides can be predicted, people can leave the hazardous areas earlier. A good prediction mechanism is thus critical. Currently, a widely-used...
HPC applications pose high demands on I/O performance and storage capability. The emerging non-volatile memory (NVM) techniques offer low- latency, high bandwidth, and persistence for HPC applications. However, the existing I/O stack are designed and optimized based on an assumption of disk-based storage. To effectively use NVM, we must re-examine the existing high performance computing (HPC) I/O...
The bearing fault, generating harmful vibrations, is one of the main causes of machine breakdowns. Therefore, performing bearing fault diagnosis is a key point to improve the reliability of the mechanical systems and reduce the corresponding operating expense. Recently, more and more studies focus on addressing this problem through detection transient signal by means of sparse representation (SR)...
Extreme climate events are projected to increase under the context of global warming associated with the increase in greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, coastal regions which are also characterized with significant urbanization will be vulnerable to the extreme events, such as severe typhoon. Timely assessment and accurate information on the extent and severity of the damage caused by extreme...
This paper first discusses the D-pole placement problem of fractional-order linear systems. Some criteria are proposed to ensure that all the closed-loop eigenvalues of fractional-order linear systems are located inside a specific region S(a, r, θ). Then, necessary and sufficient D-stability condition of fractional-order linear systems guaranteeing the D-stability is presented. Conditions for feasibility...
A 4-D fractional order chaotic system without equilibrium point is studied in this paper, the modification of the differential transform method (MDTM) is applied to solving the fractional order chaotic system, and 0–1 test method is used to test chaotic of the system, the regular and chaotic motions can be decided by calculating the asymptotic growth rate K approaching asymptotically to zero or one...
For MIMO nonlinear differential-algebraic equations (DAE) subsystem, the Backstepping stabilization control method is studied and the results are applied to the decentralized control of power system. The concept of vector relative order for MIMO nonlinear DAE subsystem is put forward. If the vector relative order exists, then the subsystem can be transformed equivalently by a diffeomorphism and a...
The most important step for lower extremity exoskeleton is to infer human motion intent (HMI), which contributes to achieve human exoskeleton collaboration. Since the user is in the control loop, the relationship between human robot interaction (HRI) information and HMI is nonlinear and complicated, which is difficult to be modeled by using mathematical approaches. The nonlinear approximation can...
