Calcium pimelate (CaPim) is known as one of the most stable and effective β-nucleating agents for isotactic polypropylene (iPP). To establish the structure-properties relationships of CaPim, the structure and corresponding β-nucleating ability of as-synthesized CaPim and CaPim annealed at temperature (Ta) varying from 130 to 330 °C were investigated. Our results revealed that as-synthesized CaPim...
Nucleating agents (NA) is a kind of the most important additives in polymer industry. The phenomena of NA self-assembling/crystallizing into various supramolecular aggregations in the polymer melt and showing different nucleation effects have been widely reported. However, the process of the self-assembly formation, which is essential for understanding the exact nucleating mechanism of NAs, is not...
In this work, the crystalline morphologies and mechanical properties of olefin multiblock copolymer (OBC) were regulated by blending with polymers possessing architecture similar to the constituent blocks. In order to understand the influence of multiblock architecture on the interaction between OBC and blended substances, ethylene-octene random copolymer (ORC) with similar crystallinity was blended...
The influence of in situ thermal reduction of graphene oxides (GO) on the isotactic polypropylene (iPP) crystallization were systematically investigated by comparing the crystallization behavior of iPP with different annealing procedures at 200 °C. Polarizing optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry results show that, for iPP/GO composite after annealing, both the number of nucleation...
The crystallization behavior of olefin block copolymer (OBC) in α- and β-polypropylene (PP) matrix was comparatively investigated. According to the DSC results, the crystallization temperature of OBC (TcOBC) is 107.9 °C, while for various PP blends containing 10 wt% of OBC, these values in α- and β-PP/OBC blends are 113.1 °C and 99.2 °C, respectively. Unlike the elevated TcOBC value in α-PP/OBC blend,...
In-situ synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) were carried out to investigate the uniaxial drawing-induced deformation and structure transitions of β form isotactic polypropylene (iPP) at varying temperatures (30 °C, 60 °C, 80 °C, 100 °C and 120 °C). The WAXS results indicated that the initial strain for the strain-induced β–α transformation decreases...
Relaxation of shear-enhanced crystallization in an impact-resistant polypropylene copolymer (IPC) upon thermal treatment was systematically investigated, from the sight of phase structure and resultant morphological evolution. Shearing was capable of accelerating the crystallization of IPC, while upon melt annealing, a spontaneous morphological evolution can be observed accompanied by a gradual relaxation...
Impact-resistant polypropylene copolymer (IPC) samples with various pre-shear histories were prepared by a Brabender Rheometer. The influence of pre-shearing on crystallization of IPC, including isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization behaviors was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). The results of nonisothermal crystallization showed...
In order to clarify the effect of high molecular weight component on the crystallization of bimodal high density polyethylene (HDPE), a commercial PE-100 pipe resin was blended with small loading of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The isothermal crystallization kinetics and crystal morphology of HDPE/UHMWPE composites were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized...
Copolymerization of acrylic acid and 1H,1H,11H-perfluoroundecyl acrylate in supercritical carbon dioxide was successfully carried out. The products were obtained in the form of dry white powder with diameter about 0.2μm. Viscosities of 2% aqueous solution of the copolymers were much higher than that of poly(acrylic acid) and it showed a strong dependence on pH, which is due to the intermolecular association.
