The cross polarized (XP) radiation from a probe-fed circular patch, its variation with the change in probe location from the matched to slightly offset configuration, and the application of a pair of dot-DGS to suppress that the XP levels are investigated. Some significant results are provided based on a series of simulation and experimental studies.
Ring shaped defected ground structure (DGS) is explored to reduce mutual coupling between two circular microstrip patches. Reduction by about 4 dB has been demonstrated employing simulation and measurements executed in X-band. The defect surrounding a patch also indicates 5-20 dB reduction in its cross-polarized fields. Although some backward radiation, caused by leakage through the defect, is experimentally...
In this paper, suppression of cross-polarized (XP) radiation of a circular microstrip patch antenna (CMPA) employing two new geometries of defected ground structures (DGSs), is experimentally investigated. One of the antennas employs a circular ring shaped defect in the ground plane, located bit away from the edge of the patch. This structure provides an improvement of XP level by 5 to 7 dB compared...
