Multiphoton microscopy, including two-photon laser scanning microscopy and second-harmonic generation is a unique technique for non-invasive imaging in biological samples. However, clinical translation and applications outside the laser laboratory have been hampered by the need to use bulky, expensive and environmentally sensitive lasers, that often require active water cooling and have high energy...
Yb-doped femtosecond fiber chirped pulse amplifiers (FCPAs) are extremely attractive to replace their solid-state counterparts in when it comes to robustness and ease of operation. However, in most Yb-doped FCPAs delivering high-energy output pulses the advantages of robustness and ease of operation are forfeited since free-space optical components are used to stretch and compress the pulses. The...
Ytterbium doped fiber chirped pulse amplifiers (FCPAs) are attractive sources to replace their solid-state counterparts in applications like micromachining, for example for manufacturing photonic devices in bulk glass substrates. For such applications, a pulse duration of several tens of fs is often considered to be optimal so that one can write features with a sub-wavelength precision. However, the...
All integrated mode-locked Yb-doped fiber oscillators delivering high fidelity pulses are very attractive as seed sources for Yb-fiber amplifier systems [1] as well as Yb solid state lasers [2] delivering sub-200 fs pulses. The main demands for seed sources of such systems are good pulse quality and compressibility, and enough seed energy. High fidelity pulses are also beneficial to minimize collateral...
We present a completely monolithic Yb-fiber chirped pulse amplifier that uses a dispersion matched fiber stretcher and hollow core photonic bandgap compressor fiber. The output pulses are compressed to almost Fourier limited duration.
We present a mode-locked Yb-fiber oscillator with higher-order-mode fiber operating in the normal-dispersion regime, delivering 7.2 nJ pulses compressible down to 62 fs. Theoretical predictions reveal an operation regime with highest pulse fidelity.
Energy saturation is achieved by seeding 1-kHz Yb:CaF2 amplifier by μJ pulses from a monolithic Yb-fiber MOPA leading to 6-mJ output. The saturation is possible at any rep-rate with appropriate seed and optical loss levels.
Energy scaling of μJ fs pulses from monolithic YDFAs is limited by pulse pedestal formation. We demonstrate a chirped-pulse fiber-amplifier that uses a newly developed dispersion compensating fiber stretcher matching the dispersion of a grating pair.
We present a mode-locked 24 MHz Yb-doped fiber oscillator with a higher-order mode fiber for dispersion compensation. The oscillator operates in the net normal dispersion regime and generates clean 6 nJ pulses that can be dechirped down to 150 fs.
Progress in the fabrication and performance of glass-clad crystalline semiconductor core optical fibers is reviewed. This new class of optical fibers may significantly advance applications in nonlinear optics and infrared power delivery.
In this paper, the author demonstrate a drastically simplified seeding/synchronization approach based on an environmentally stable muJ-energy 200-fs, 100-kHz Yb-doped fiber amplifier (YDFA). It generates a white light continuum in bulk sapphire, pumps a distributed fiber grating optical parametric amplifier (DFG OPA) and provides an optical seed compatible with most Nd and Yb ~1mum pump pulse amplifiers.
