Die SnS2‐Schichten haben eine größere Zustandsdichte an der Valenzbandkante. Eine Photoelektrode aus diesem Material erreicht bei der Umwandlung von sichtbarem Licht einen Wirkungsgrad von 38.7 %, der höher ist als die meisten veröffentlichten Werte.
Die effektive Spaltung von Wasser mit Licht ist mit einer Photoelektrode möglich, die aus SnS2‐Schichten mit einer Dicke von drei Atomen besteht. In ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 8857 ff. beschreiben S. Q. Wei, Y. Xie et al. die Synthese von SnS2‐Schichten über eine skalierbare Abblättermethode. Die Photoelektrode zeigt einen Wirkungsgrad von 38.7 % und ist somit besser als die meisten berichteten Elektroden.
