We propose a new two-stage energy-saving scheme allocating the idle time of one ONU's transceiver to other ONUs based on downstream and upstream matching and dividing ONUs into two categories which adopt different energy-saving modes according to their traffic. The simulation results show that proposed scheme can reduce the power consumption and delay of ONUs.
Providing quality-of-service guarantees by means of fair sharing has never been more challenging in datacenters. Due to the heterogeneity of machine configurations, datacenter jobs frequently specify placement constraints, restricting them to run on a particular class of machines meeting specific hardware/software requirements. In addition, jobs have diverse demands across multiple resource types,...
As Network Function Virtualization (NFV) becomes reality and cloud computing offers a scalable pay-as-you-go charging model, more network operators would like to outsource their Service Function Chains (SFC) to the public clouds in order to reduce the operational cost. However, how to minimize the operational cost with Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee when outsourcing SFC is still an open problem...
Instant Messaging (IM) service has drawn growing attention in current wireless networks. However, the Quality of Experience (QoE) of IM service users are instable, since the IM service is not served with dedicated channel or guaranteed bandwidth. In this paper, we adopt a Representative Service (RS) based QoE model for IM service, and propose a scheduling algorithm to provide fair QoE to IM service...
Instant Messaging (IM) Service is an integrated service composed by multiple types of subservices, which have diverse performance requirements and evaluation criteria. IM service has drawn a lot of attention, yet a suitable Quality of Experience (QoE) model for IM service can rarely be found. In this paper, we propose a Representative Service (RS) based QoE modeling criterion for IM service. We discover...
Abstracting sensor capabilities as services is a promising approach to support interoperability and scalability in Internet of Things based applications; however, ranking and selecting these dynamic and large number of real-world services in real-time is a challenging problem, which involves decision making in the presence of multiple criteria. This paper demonstrates an application of the Primitive...
Current heterogeneous wireless networks often overlap because of their complementary characteristics and the large deployment of various wireless access technologies. Mobile devices, which are equipped with multiple wireless interfaces, called multiple radio access technologies (multi-RATs) mobile stations (MSs), are also becoming increasingly popular. Therefore, common radio resource management (CRRM)...
Fault-tolerance needs to be improved and QoS (Quality of Service) routing is necessary in the network, fault-tolerant QoS routing is one of the effective mechanisms. However, due to the dynamic of network parameters, the fuzziness of user requirements, and the imprecise measurements of network parameters, fault-tolerant QoS routing is actually based on the fuzzy information. Therefore, by introducing...
In this paper, we propose a QoS optimized power control approach to achieve an optimum multimedia communication quality over the InterPlaNetary (IPN) Internet with a strict energy consumption budget. The transmission power to send each frame is optimized by jointly considering the unequal distortion reduction gain of the multimedia data, energy consumption budget, and overall multimedia communication...
Due to the heterogeneity, mobility, instability and other features of NGI (Next Generation Internet), it is difficult to provide users with QoS (Quality of Service). And fault-tolerance needs to be improved in NGI. Thus, an intelligent fault-tolerant QoS unicast routing mechanism based on the outlook algorithm is proposed. The knowledge of fuzzy mathematics and probability theory is introduced to...
In this paper, the queue dynamics of secondary users (SUs) in a multi-SU and multi-channel cognitive radio network is analyzed to obtain the expressions of quality of service (QoS) metrics. Specially, in the analysis, we take several lower-layer mechanisms and settings into account, including automatic repeat request (ARQ), finite-size buffer, adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and non-ignorable...
E-commerce systems are typically QoS-sensitive, so QoS-oriented tunings of e-commerce servers are very important for such systems. However, existing e-commerce benchmarks are insufficient for supporting QoS-oriented tunings, because some critical QoS features of e-commerce systems cannot be precisely evaluated by them. One example of these features is the integrality of service, which is usually expressed...
Mobile WiMAX's scheduling service is a key factor in Radio Resource Management (RRM) in realizing Quality of Service (QoS). The choice in scheduling algorithm for Mobile WiMAX base stations, albeit outside of the scope of the standard, critically impacts the performance and robustness of Mobile WiMAX networks. This paper provides an in-depth study of four major scheduling algorithms: Round Robin (RR),...
In this paper, we discuss the spectrum management technologies including spectrum sensing, spectrum decision, spectrum sharing, and spectrum handoff schemes in cognitive radio (CR) networks. In order to evaluate performance of different spectrum management schemes, the preemptive resume priority (PRP) M/G/1 queuing model is suggested to characterize the spectrum usage behavior between the primary...
Aiming at the power control in cognitive radio, a power control game algorithm based on interference temperature is discussed, and non-cooperative power control game which is created by David Goodman is used. The efficiency function was mended, and we also designed a new pricing function with interference temperature. Compared with other power control game models, the simulation shows that the NPG-ITLP...
In this paper, a QoS handoff decision scheme with ABC (always best connected) supported is proposed, and an optimal handoff solution of assigning N terminals to M access networks is found based on niche PSO algorithm. With help of gaming analysis, Pareto optimum under Nash equilibrium of user utility and network provider utility is achieved or approached for the found solution.
In order to improve the communication quality in practical network coding system, three main strategies are proposed to protect the encoding vectors, which includes importing cyclical redundancy into the encoding vectors of the coded packets, executing distributed space-time code to the encoded packets and a shift between the above two modes above according to different signal-noise ratios. And then...
NGI (next generation Internet) needs to provide QoS (quality of service) routing and support ABC (always best connected). However, due to the difficulty on the exact measurement of the network status and the exact expression of the user QoS requirements, QoS routing scheme with ABC supported should be based on the fuzzy information. Meanwhile, with the gradual commercialization of the network operation,...
Based on the technology of Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET), we design and implement an Audio Conferencing Testbed (ACT) that is used for a group of people to set up virtual audio conferencing room to complete certain mission in places where network infrastructure is unavailable. ACT is built on popular Windows operating system with off-the-shelf IEEE802.lt (a.k.a. Wi-Fi) adapters as the enabling technology...
In wireless communications, packet size is one of the most significant parameters that have an impact on the quality of service (QoS). The optimal packet size depends on wireless channel condition and reception performance. However, it is difficult to determine the optimal packet size under time-varying channel in advance. Besides, performance characteristic of wireless devices is virtually unpredictable...
