A flexible TWDM PON system is proposed which allows pay-as-you-grow deployment of OLT transceiver modules, supports load balancing among different ODNs and achieves significant power saving at OLT. A proof-of-concept experimental testbed confirms the feasibility of the proposed system with 40Gb/s symmetric capacity and more than 38 dB power budget.
The users in Online Social Networks (OSN) may share private information with wrong friends. One approach to tackle this issue is by applying community discovery methods in egocentric networks to automatically generate friend circles for the user. There is however a discrepancy between the predicted circles and the circles that the user has in mind. A deep rooted reason is that it only makes sense...
In Online Social Networks (OSNs), it can be difficult to maintain the context of a conversation or action, i.e. to know what the situation is and how to act appropriately. The resulting uncertainties may lead to privacy issues. We focus on one issue Context Collision in this paper, and motivate that a first step to address this issue is to help users distinguish groups of contacts within their OSN...
Nowadays, travelling has been a way of relaxing. But we always can't get the fully and timely information about the objective attractions. Meanwhile, social media services and web sites, such as Flickr and YouTube, provide plenty of photos, most of which are taken during the journeys. And every photo describes a perspective of an attraction. It has become a hot topic about how to discover scenic from...
The prediction of long range dependence (LRD) is the critical problem in network traffic. The traditional algorithms, such as Markov model and ON/OFF model, may provide high computation cost and low precision. In this study, a novel method based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and ARMA model was proposed. The researchers adopted EMD to decompose the network traffic data which would be decomposed...
In cognitive radio (CR) networks, the secondary users are allowed to use the licensed frequency bands of the primary users (PUs) when these bands are vacant. However, once the PUs come back, they may collide with the transmitting secondary users. Therefore, the secondary users are generally required to sense the channel periodically to ensure that the primary users are absent during their data transmission...
Cloud computing and mobile computing are two of the most influential technologies that look set to change the face of computing in the coming years. Combination of the two provides us with an unprecedented opportunity to provide highly portable and yet content-rich and computation-intensive services to the end user. In this paper we investigate the possibility of using code/task offload techniques...
The Stabilized platform is used for isolating the vibration and disturbance of carrier and ensuring the stability of the line of sight (LOS). Proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control provides an efficient solution to control problems and make good performance in static precision. The fuzzy controller has good robust and is effective for the nonlinear time-varying system. Based on Advanced Scale...
Task scheduling has been proven to be NP-hard problem and we can usually approximate the best solutions with some classical algorithm, such as Heterogeneous Earliest Finish Time(HEFT), Genetic Algorithm. However, the huge types of scheduling problems and the small number of generally acknowledged methods mean that more methods are needed. In this paper, we propose a new method to schedule the execution...
Global leaf area index (LAI) products such as MODIS LAI product et al. have relatively low spatial resolution (250m–7km) and can not meet the needs of high spatial resolution remote sensing applications. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the feasibility of the algorithm based on physical model for LAI retrieval using high spatial resolution remote sensing imagery. This study utilized the algorithm...
Analytical solutions are considered as increasingly important for modern enterprises. Currently, systematical adoption of analytical solutions is limited to only a small set of large enterprises, as the deployment cost is high due to high performance hardware requirement and expensive analytics software. Moreover, such on-premises solutions are not suitable for the occasional analytics consumers....
Land surface albedo may be derived from the satellite data through the estimation of a bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) model and angular integration. However many BRDF models do not consider explicitly the topography. In rugged terrain, the topography influences the observed surface reflectance, and varies the distribution of downward irradiance, so that BRDF and angular integration...
This paper introduces a new type of actuator, namely Electro-Hydrostatic Actuator (EHA)[1]. According to the engineering, we choose the asymmetric hydraulic cylinder, establish the mathematical model of permanent magnet synchronous motor and EHA, and adopt the MATLAB proceeds to imitate the true research. To solve the problem of nonlinear system, we adopt PID control method.
An artificial neural network for pollution evaluation is introduced in this paper which contributes to design an expert system for flashover predicting. The network measures four parameters (peak impulse current, maximum low-frequency current, humidity and voltage) which reflect the insulating property of an insulator and outputs the pollution level. After enough of training, the outputs of the network...
Recent advances in cognitive radio (CR) technology have brought about a number of wireless standards that support opportunistic access to available white-space spectrum. Addressing the self-coexistence of CR networks in such an environment is very challenging, especially when coexisting networks operate in the same swath of spectrum with little or no direct coordination. In this paper, we study the...
With the development of dynamic spectrum access technologies, such as cognitive radio, the secondary use of underutilized TV broadcast spectrum has come a step closer to reality. Recently, a number of wireless standards that incorporate CR technology have been finalized or are being developed to standardize systems that will coexist in the same TV white spaces. In these wireless standards, the widely...
It is becoming common practice to migrate signal-based video workflows to IT-based Video workflows. Video workflows have some inherent features, including: 1) necessary human involvements in video workflows introduce security and authorization concerns; 2) the frequent change of video workflow contexts requires a flexible approach to acquiring performance data; 3) the content-centric nature of video...
Since 2010, the central government of China has introduced a series of tightened policy to limit too fast ascension in housing price. This paper proposes a method to estimate the effect of housing price fluctuations on the macro-economy. In the model, housing price fluctuations not only change housing market situations, but also the productivity of construction and real estate sectors. Stress testing...
In this paper we develop a model for recognizing human interactions - activity recognition with multiple actors. An activity is modeled with a sequence of key poses, important atomic-level actions performed by the actors. Spatial arrangements between the actors are included in the model, as is a strict temporal ordering of the key poses. An exemplar representation is used to model the variability...
In this paper, we make a performance comparison between convolutional(171,133) codes (CC), concatenated RS(255,239)-convolutional(171,133) codes (RS-CC) and LDPC(672,336) based on 60GHz single carrier physical layer (SC-PHY). With the effect of phase noise and non-linear distortion of power amplifier (NLPA) taken into account, RS-CC reveals higher robustness against the effect over LDPC, and it has...
