Multiple-port microlasers can be used to driver several optical elements as the light or signal sources in photonic integrated circuits through optical interconnection. Using simple planar technique process, four-port square-resonator microlasers are proposed and fabricated by directly four coupled waveguides at vertices. Continuous wave lasing is realized at room temperature with a threshold current...
Coupled microcircular lasers with an output waveguide laterally confined by insulator SiO2 and p-electrode metal are fabricated by conventional photolithography and inductively coupled-plasma etching technique. Mode characteristics are numerically investigated by FDTD technique.
Series-coupled high-order microring channel drop filters are designed and fabricated by CMOS technique on SOI wafer. The transmission spectra with the drop channel bandwidth of 0.028 nm are observed for the filter based on three coupled rings with the radius of 20 mum, and coupling-induced resonance frequency shifts on fifth-order microrings filter are observed experimentally.
