Systematic measurements of the radon concentration and of the gamma ray activity have been made in Hall B of the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory. The radon level was reduced from about 150 Bq m -3 to 20 Bq m -3 and is now essentially stable at this level. The natural gamma ray background in Hall B is about 9 nSv h -1 , about a factor of nine smaller than the...
In this paper are presented the measurements of radon concentration taken in the period 1991 - May 1994 in the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory, Assergi (L'Aquila), Italy. The radon level was reduced to acceptable values from the point of view of radiation protection and low background radiation to the experiments. The radon concentration depends strongly on the ventilation of the laboratory.
