Comparing with uncoated LPFGs, ZnO coated LPFG shows obvious improvement of RI sensitivity between the RI range of 1.4 and 1.62. The proposed structure exhibits a very high sensitivity of 5175 nm/RIU in the RI range from 1.444 to 1.448, and the sensitivity could be further improved by optimizing the thickness of the ZnO thin film.
High quality FBGs have been fabricated in our lab using three types of femtosecond laser inscription techniques, i.e. Phase Mask method, Line-by-Line method and Point-by-Point method. It is found that Phase Mask method shows the best spectral quality and repeatability but the flexibility is poor; Line-by-Line method exhibits good flexibility where nearly all the grating parameters can be adjusted...
We demonstrated a promising $\hbox{CO}_{2}$ laser irradiation system based on an improved 2-D scanning technique. Such a system could be used to inscribe high-quality long period fiber gratings (LPFGs) with good reproducibility of grating inscription, which attributes to the fact that our system includes a $\hbox{CO}_{2}$ laser with an excellent power stability of less than $\pm$2% and a 3-D ultraprecision...
Bragg gratings written in H2-free and H2-loaded SMF-28 fiber by use of infrared (IR) femtosecond laser radiation with a phase mask have been investigated in terms of their axial and cross-sectional morphology. It was found that Type I-IR and Type II-IR refractive index changes existed simultaneously in a single grating (which is termed a hybrid grating in this paper) written in either H2-free or H...
