Adaptive DD-OFDM transmission is proposed for low-cost deployment of homogenous MCF links where ICXT can cause outage probabilities. Experimental demonstration shows a throughput gain relative to the static modulation of 13% and high ICXT tolerance with a reduction of the average throughput of only 9% relative to the situation measured without ICXT.
In this work, the tolerance to in-band crosstalk of virtual carrier (VC)-assisted direct detection (DD) multi-band orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MB-OFDM) metro networks, with and without signal-to-signal beat interference (SSBI) mitigation, is compared numerically for 4-ary, 16-ary and 64-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) formats in the OFDM subcarriers. Our results show that...
A simplified expression allowing the estimation of the error vector magnitude (EVM) of each subcarrier of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) direct-detection wavelength division multiplexing systems dominantly impaired by the cross-phase modulation is proposed and validated. This expression is then extensively used to assess the dependence of the OFDM signals performance on the number...
Some techniques of linearization of electro-optical converters are reviewed, and their performance is assessed numerically or experimentally for multi-octave multi-format orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-based signals used in passive optical networks supporting quintuple play services.
This paper assesses, experimentally, the performance improvement achieved by pre-emphasis of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) ultra-wideband (UWB) radio signals transmitted over standard single-mode fiber, using a commercially available low-cost directly modulated laser. Stable improvements along the time of the error-vector-magnitude, exceeding 3 dB, are reported for distances exceeding...
