An improved W-band corrugated horn has been designed, manufactured, and experimentally measured for integration into a gyro-device as a quasi-optical launcher. This horn converts a cylindrical TE11 mode into the free space TEM00 mode over the frequency band of 90–100 GHz with a reflection better than −30 dB and a coupling efficiency of ∼99.4%
Gyro-BWOs are efficient sources with wide frequency tuneability and high power capability from the microwave to terahertz frequency range. The helically corrugated waveguide couples two modes in the circular waveguide to generate a new operating eigen-mode which has large group velocity in low axial wavenumber range [1]. Gyro-BWOs based on helically corrugated waveguides [2,3] can achieve even wider...
A quasi-optical mode converter in the form of a corrugated horn has been constructed for a W-band gyrotron traveling wave amplifier (gyro-TWA). The prototype was designed and optimized through analytical and numerical simulations. The horn converts a cylindrical TE11 mode into a free-space TEM00 mode in a frequency band of 90 GHz to 100 GHz. The optimized simulation predicts a return loss better than...
