This article presents a compact multi-layer handset phone 13.56 MHz NFC antenna design by novel LITA (Laser-Induced Integrated Thin-Film Antenna) technologies, which is jointly developed by ITRI and ACON in Taiwan. Through the proposed LITA technology, metal layouts of antennas can be formed on the internal surface of a smartwatch casing successfully with conformal, thin-film type, multi-layer and...
A compact uniplanar antenna design for tablet/laptop applications is proposed. The main design principle of this antenna is the use of coupling-feed mechanism. The proposed antenna is composed of a T-shaped feeding strip, parasitic shorted strip, and a step tuning stub. With a small size of 50 mm × 15 mm × 0.8 mm, the proposed antenna is able to excite dual wideband operation that can cover the entire...

Through the proposed LITA technology which is jointly developed by ITRI and ACON in Taiwan, metal layouts of antennas can be formed on the internal surface of a smartwatch casing successfully with conform...
A quad-band circularly polarized (CP) antenna for 2.4/5.3/5.8-GHz WLAN and 3.5-GHz WiMAX applications is proposed. Three CP modes operating at the 2.4/3.5/5.8-GHz frequency bands are first achieved by a patch antenna composed of an inverted-U-shaped radiator with additional I-shaped and L-shaped strips, all rotated by 45 around the horizontal axis. By placing a simple frequency selective surface...
This article presents a novel internal high-gain handset phone antenna design for STICS system application. STICS is the Satellite and Terrestrial Integrated Mobile Communication System in the 2GHz band in Japan. This article demonstrates that 1.5 wavelength folded loop radiator is a very promising antenna solution for the future STICS mobile phone terminals for satellite-link functions. The proposed...
An internal thin-type LTE/WWAN antenna capable to be integrated in a small notched corner of a shaped system ground plane of a mobile phone is presented. The shaped ground plane has another large rectangular notch such that the handset battery can be embedded therein to decrease the thickness of the mobile phone. The proposed antenna has two short monopole strips connected to a feeding point through...
An on-board printed WWAN/LTE antenna of simple structure disposed in a small clearance of 8 × 36 mm2 in the ground plane of shaped circuit board in a slim handset is presented. The shaped circuit board has a large rectangular notch such that the battery of the handset can be embedded therein to decrease the thickness of the handset, and lead to much enhanced bandwidth of the antenna disposed thereon...
A novel concurrent 2-port/3-port MIMO antenna system for UMTS/LTE2500 operation in the mobile phone is demonstrated. The antenna system mainly consists of two back-to-back printed symmetrical hybrid antennas and a dual-loop antenna arranged between them. The hybrid antenna can easily cover the required bandwidth for UMTS/LTE2500 operation. The dual-loop antenna can cover the required bandwidth for...
An internal WWAN mobile phone antenna formed by a coupled-fed PIFA and a simple printed monopole to integrate with a USB connector is presented. The proposed antenna is suitable to be mounted at the bottom of the mobile phone, and the USB connector integrated therein serve as a data port for the mobile phone. In addition, the antenna requires a small footprint of less than 10 × 60 mm2 on the system...
A small-size coupled-fed printed PIFA to cover all the eight operating bands of the LTE/GSM/UMTS (698-960/1710-2690 MHz) in the mobile phone has been proposed. Good radiation characteristics over the eight operating bands have also been obtained. Owing to its all printing structure and uniplanar configuration, the proposed antenna is especially suitable for application in the slim mobile phone.
