We demonstrated an electro-optic polarization conversion type modulator using domain-inverted 8 mol% MgO doped congruent LiTaO3 for the first time. The wavelength acceptance bandwidth was ∼15 nm, which was much broader than that of the LiNbO3 device. The maximum polarization conversion efficiency as high as 93% was obtained for the wavelength of 980 nm. The temperature acceptance bandwidth 2.0°C was...
We fabricated ridge waveguides in ion-sliced LiNbÜ3 by accelerated chemical etching in the proton-exchanged region. We obtained the low-loss waveguides of 0.7 mm2 cross-sectional area. Strongly confined guided modes were obtained at 1.55 mm wavelength.
