For the purpose of the realization of radio communication with high speed and high frequency utilization efficiency, we propose a 40 GHz-band full duplex radio system (called the Directional Division Duplex (DDD) system). The system realizes transmission and reception at the same time by using the same radio frequency and same polarization. We have developed the DDD radio system and performed field...
This paper presents a design of a metal cap with two slots attaching at the edge of a mobile module substrate for a 60GHz-band wireless personal area network (WPAN). The metal cap is fed by a post-wall waveguide (PWW) converted from a micro strip line (MSL). The size of the metal cap is 8.01× 2.34× 4.45 mm3. The reflection is less than −11 dB and the realized gain is larger than 9 dBi over 57–66 GHz.
A dual-polarized corporate-feed waveguide 32×32-slot array antenna with an orthomode transducer is designed for 40 GHz band (41∼42 GHz) in order to integrate their two input ports. The simulation by HFSS gives the bandwidth for VSWR lower than 1.5 of 6.5 % (S11) and 3.8 % (S22), respectively, at the design frequency of 41.5 GHz. S12 is achieved less than −20 dB over the bandwidth. The simulated realized...
We proposed to place an RF circuit and an antenna on each side of a silicon RF chip in the 60 GHz band, respectively, and to connect between them with low loss by a coaxial-line structure using a hole opening in the chip. We fabricated a 2×2 circularly polarized patch array in an area of 5mm square on a silicon chip and had coaxial-line connection with a separated quadrature oscillator chip. However...
A 60GHz-band compact-range wireless access system using a large array antenna can provide an uniform signal reception zone (less than 14 m distance from the antenna) and an almost multipath-free propagation environment. To evaluate the system performance, a wireless communication system for demonstration is constructed and the bit error rate (BER) and the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR)...
This paper presents the functionality extensions of the plate-laminated waveguide slot array antennas in terms of polarization, bandwidth, gain and weight especially for point-to-point communications in wireless mobile backhaul.
In this paper, we have discussed two topics. One is the connection of a quadrature oscillator chip with a 2×2 circularly-polarized patch array on this thick resin of a 60GHz band silicon chip through coaxial-line structures with hole opening. The other is the differential feed of a patch antenna, which will be suitable for the connection with a silicon CMOS chip.
A dual-polarization corporate-feed waveguide 32×32-slot array antenna is designed for 120 GHz band in order to increase the operating frequency band and the gain. The simulation by HFSS gives the bandwidth for VSWR lower than 1.5 of 7.6% (S11) and 8.8% (S22), respectively, at the design frequency of 125 GHz. The isolation is achieved more than 50 dB over the bandwidth. The simulated realized gain...
We have proposed to place a CMOS RF circuit and an antenna on each side of a silicon chip in the 60 GHz band, respectively, and to connect between them with low loss by a coaxial-line structure using a hole opening in the chip. To enhance the radiation efficiency, a patch antenna is placed on a thick resin layer. In this paper, we design a differential-feed square patch antenna on a silicon chip.
In this paper, we design a dual-polarization corporate-feed waveguide 32×32-slot array antenna for 120 GHz band in order to increase the operating frequency band and the gain. As a result of the simulation by HFSS, the bandwidth for VSWR less than 1.5 at the design frequency of 125 GHz is 7.6% (S11) and 8.8% (S22), respectively. The isolation is more than 50 dB over the above bandwidth. The simulated...

Macroscopic behaviors of rain and link availability together with diversity effects are evaluated in the previous studies on the intensive propagation. These studies focus on the long distance radio links such as terrestrial and satellite communications, where relatively weak rain events are the main interest. In this paper, evaluation of behavior of rain and its effect on link attenuation in Tokyo...

We proposed a patch antenna placed on a thick resin layer on the opposite side of a CMOS RF circuit in a silicon chipand fed through a hole with coaxial-line structurein the 60GHz band. The thick resin layer of 200 μm thickness can enhance the radiation efficiency. The connection loss between the antenna and the RF circuit is expected to be small. In this paper, we design and fabricate a patch antenna...
This paper presents a measurement method for determining the effective conductivity σp of copper posts in a copper-clad dielectric substrate in the millimeter-wave region. The conductivity is indirectly evaluated from measured resonant frequencies and unloaded Q values of a number of Whispering Gallery modes excited in a post-wall circular resonator with a large diameter of 10 – 30 wavelengths. We...
A de-embedding method using an electromagnetic (EM) simulator is proposed to extract field-effect transistor (FET) characteristics from FET test-pattern measurements. In the proposed method, the S-parameters of the parasitic circuit are analyzed using the EM simulator. Hybrid S/Z-parameters, converted from S-parameters, are used for the parasitic circuit to express waveguide ports with S-parameters...
