A finite element-based full-vectorial modal solution approach has been used to determine the single mode operation of a PCF in the optical and terahertz frequency range. Designs of highly birefringent and single polarization PCFs are also shown.
Finite element based full vectorial modal solution approach has been developed to determine effective index of space filling mode, cutoff of fundamental and second order guided modes, identifying single mode operation of photonic crystal fibers. Structural asymmetry has also been introduced to maximize the modal birefringence to design polarization maintaining photonic crystal fibers at 1.55 mum.
