System tolerance of m-PSK optical phase regeneration was investigated. Chromatic dispersion tolerance shows strong dependence on signal's baud-rate and m-number. Polarization mismatch between pumps and signal reduces gain but has no impact on phase regeneration.
We studied acoustic breathing modes of GaN nanorods on silicon substrates by ultrafast acoustic phonon spectroscopy. This technique could be utilized to nondestructively inspect uniformity of nanorods within the area of optical spot.
Optical phase regeneration of QPSK by employing two signal conjugates in a dual-pump degenerate phase-sensitive amplifier is verified via simulations. Phase error standard deviation of 12.8270 is reduced to 3.3570. We further verify this scheme's scalability to support 8PSK.
By exploiting non-degenerate four-wave mixing in highly nonlinear fibers assisted by two phase-modulated pumps, we report optical multicasted hexadecimal coding/decoding of 16-QAM. Constellation manipulation for a 10-Gbaud/s 16-QAM signal is demonstrated with OSNR penalties of <2.4 dB for multicasted coding and <1.6 dB for decoding.
We experimentally demonstrate a tunable and reconfigurable optical DFT to demodulate 10-40-Gbuad OFDM with 2/3/4 subcarriers at 20/40GHz frequency spacing. Average power penalty of ~7 dB at BER of 10-9 is achieved on the subchannels in the 4×20Gbit/s case, and ~3 dB penalty is observed by using 50% guard time 4×10Gbit/s at 20G frequency spacing.
We propose and demonstrate optical hexadecimal coding/decoding of 16-QAM using degenerate four-wave mixing (FWM) in highly nonlinear fibers (HNLFs). Constellation manipulation for variable coding/decoding of a 10-Gbaud/s 16-QAM signal is implemented with an OSNR penalty of <1.1 dB with CW pump and <1.2 dB with phase-modulated pump Key.
We propose and experimentally demonstrate UWB monocycle generation using non-degenerated two-photon absorption in a silicon waveguide. A 8.69-GHz 10-dB bandwidth (BW) and a 154.5% fractional bandwidth is achieved with a ∼125 ps monocycle pulse.
A method of reconfigurable frequency up/down-conversion using an optical parametric loop mirror is proposed. Up-conversion of up to 60GHz and down-conversion from 40GHz for single and WDM signals are demonstrated.
We report phase-transparent DQPSK data exchange using parametric depletion in a highly nonlinear fiber. 100-Gbit/s DQPSK data exchange is demonstrated with a power penalty less than 5dB. Pump misalignment tolerance (+/-2ps) and input signal power dynamic range (~20dB) are investigated.
We report the phase-transparent optical data exchange based on non-degenerate FWM in an HNLF via theoretical analysis and experimental verification. 40-Gbit/s NRZ-DPSK data exchange is demonstrated with a power penalty (at 10-9) ~ 4.5 dB.
We demonstrate tributary channel data grooming of high-speed signals using second-order nonlinearities in a PPLN waveguide. 16 TDM tributary channel data traffic grooming/exchange between two 160-Gbit/s WDM signals is shown with a penalty of ~4 dB.
