This letter presents a novel broadcast scheme using a double sideband with optical carrier suppression (DSBCS) modulation. Broadcast data and unicast data are delivered simultaneously by a DSBCS and an optical carrier from a single wavelength, whose states of polarization are orthogonal, respectively. The broadcast data and the unicast data modulate DSBCSs and an optical carrier using a reflective...
System tolerance of m-PSK optical phase regeneration was investigated. Chromatic dispersion tolerance shows strong dependence on signal's baud-rate and m-number. Polarization mismatch between pumps and signal reduces gain but has no impact on phase regeneration.
We demonstrate generation/multiplexing/demultiplexing of polarization-multiplexed (pol-muxed) multiple orbital-angular-momentum (OAM) modes. High spectral efficiency of 25.6-bit/s/Hz is implemented using 10.7-Gbaud 16-QAM signals over pol-muxed four OAM modes. An OSNR penalty less than 3.5 dB is observed.
We experimentally demonstrate a tunable optical generation of up to 40-Gbaud 16-QAM from a QPSK signal using a variable DGD element based on vector addition between two polarization states. We also show the baud rate tunability and investigate the tolerance of 16-QAM generation to the DGD offset.
We report tributary channel data traffic grooming/exchange of pol-muxed DPSK signal based on Kerr-induced nonlinear polarization rotation. 8 tributary channel data grooming between two pol-muxed 80-Gbit/s DPSK channels is demonstrated with a penalty of <4 dB.
We report the phase-transparent optical data exchange based on non-degenerate FWM in an HNLF via theoretical analysis and experimental verification. 40-Gbit/s NRZ-DPSK data exchange is demonstrated with a power penalty (at 10-9) ~ 4.5 dB.
The desirable features of future optical high-capacity networks include higher stability, reconfigurability and security. In order to enable robust and self-managed automated operation, the network itself should be able to monitor the physical state of the network, automatically diagnose and repair the network, dynamically allocate resources, and redirect traffic. Optical performance monitoring can...
Effects of CD and first order PMD on the shape of the constellation diagrams of DQPSK systems are presented, and by quantifying variations in the constellation diagrams, a figure of merit is obtained which can be used for computing the amount of dispersion.
In this paper we demonstrate a continuously variable bitrate receiver from 10 to 40 Gbit/s for DPSK balanced demodulation. Unlike previous DPSK demodulators, this receiver is also capable of passing intensity modulated waveforms unaffected.
