The power efficiency and performance of fully integrated charge pumps are highly dependent on the types of capacitors used in the pumping stages. A sample but not so well-known circuit technique that can minimize power losses is charge recycling applied to the parasitic capacitors always allocated with the useful capacitors at the core of every pumping stage. This paper discusses the possibility of...
Several results on instability in nonhomogeneous architectures able to generate Turing patterns are presented. The approach makes use of the continuity theorem regarding the dependence of polynomial roots on coefficients and of the root-locus techniques for small, and large parameter deviations from their homogeneous values, respectively. The results are valid for any linearized nonhomogeneous discrete...
A detailed analysis of the nonideal behavior of a cross-coupled CMOS transistor pair used to implement negative resistances and capacitors is presented. Improvement solutions are given as well.
In this paper an improved small-signal model of an active inductor taking into consideration active and biasing transistors parasitics is presented. It is shown that the effect of the biasing resistance of the cascode transistor increases to three the order of the system. The influence of the parasitic elements on stability and a noise analysis of the circuit are studied as well.
The paper presents an approach based on gain scheduling technique for improving the transient performances of a digitally controlled DC-DC Buck Converter working over a large area of operating conditions. In order to determine optimal settings for the control parameters under different test scenarios, an adaptive mechanism based on machine learning algorithms is used. The experimental results, obtained...
Since 1993 the International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems has been organized every two years as a joint activity of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology of the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, the IEEE Romanian Chapter of Circuits and Systems and IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. ISSCS is now at its thirteenth edition aimed, as previous...
We discuss a substitution commonly used in selective electronic circuits aimed at replacing a third order characteristic polynomial with a second order one in order to put into evidence the intuitive concepts of resonance frequency and quality factor. The influence of the position of the real parts of the poles on the negative axis on the above parameters is analyzed. The results are illustrated by...
On top of assessing the specification compliance, it is also important to verify the behavior and performance of the electronic components in the targeted application. This is usually achieved by jointly simulating the component and the application. There is a particular interest in finding the application yield caused by the process variation of the electronic component. The cost of the experiments...
Accurate measurement of rotor angle in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive applications is important when high performances as low level torque ripples are required. If the relationship between torque ripple and angle error is known, then, further steps can be done in order to reduce the level of the ripple. Based on an analytical description of the sensor model, a relationship between...
In this paper two methods for compressed sensing of EEG signal in connection to the P300 Evoked Potentials spelling paradigm are proposed. The results are discussed from the reconstruction error point of view and from the classification rates of the spelling paradigm.
Apart from fulfilling component electrical specifications, electronics needs to fit into the target application, composed of electronics components as well as mechanical parts. In complex applications such investigations can be made by simulations in which relevant application performances are checked under any allowed variation of operating conditions, design parameters and noise factors. In this...
A class of linear continuous in time and discrete in space homogeneous Cellular Neural Network (CNN) type analog parallel architecture and a 16 cells 1D CMOS implementation are discussed. The effect of charge injection is analyzed and experimental results for a low pass and stop band configuration are presented and compared to simulations.
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in developing software controlled DC-DC converters because of their fast configurability, e.g. for several supply and load values. This paper aims at exploring the stability of a DC-DC buck converter with a software control loop in the multidimensional space of control parameters. Once the stability domain is determined, it can be further used...
This paper focuses on the analysis of limit cycles that appear on the output voltage of a DC-DC Buck converter. Typically, the output filter of the converter is designed in open-loop, considering the maximum allowable values for the output voltage and inductor current ripples. When closing the loop, the converter may exhibit unwanted periodic oscillations in steady state caused by the nonlinearities...
This work presents a discussion on load steps modeling for the analysis of the dynamic behavior of a DC-DC Buck converter. The transient responses for two different ways of applying load steps, one using a load current source and the other one using a variable load resistance, are compared. The main focus is on the overshoot/undershoot in the behavior of the output voltage for the above mentioned...
In this communication we present a differential current controlled current scalor designed in a 0.18u CMOS technology and study the influence of its nonideal behavior on the scaling properties. The scalor exhibits very good stability with temperature, high linearity, bandwidths and dynamic range. Several examples for the scaling property are presented.
Cellular Neural Networks (CNN's) type analog parallel architectures have been and are studied both for their potential in high-speed signal processing applications and for their interesting spatio-temporal dynamics. Basically, such architectures consist of arrays of identical linear or nonlinear cells identically coupled by means of cloning templates. It is known that such architectures can exhibit...
Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal compression is playing a vital role in biomedical applications aiming at the detection and remove of redundant information. In this paper we present a comparative study regarding the quality evaluation for ECG signal compression and propose a new measure for performance measurement as an alternative to the existing PRDN. This new measure, the D-PRDN (Detrending - Normalized...
Since 1993 the International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems is organized every two years as a joint activity of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology of the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi and the Romanian Chapter of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. ISSCS 2015 reached now its twelfth edition aimed, as previous ones, at facilitating...
The paper presents a new algorithm for ECG signal compression based on local extreme extraction, adaptive hysteretic filtering and LZW coding. Basically the method consists in smoothing the ECG signal with a Savitzky-Golay filter, extraction of the local minima and maxima, a hysteretic filtering and LZW coding. The reconstruction of the ECG signal is done by cubic interpolation.
