We have proposed a fiber-optic spectrum shaper that can generate optical spectrum with variable shapes. The simulation results verified the diversity of the output optical spectrum and the experimental results are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of this spectrum shaper.
A synthesis scheme to generate microwave triangular-shaped pulses based on spectral shaping and frequency-to-time mapping is proposed. Triangular-shaped signals with periods of 0.2ns, 0.4ns, 1.6ns and pulse widths of 0.13ns, 0.35ns are demonstrated.
PMD mitigation in 2×10-Gb/s RZ-OOK PDM systems is demonstrated through a single all-optical-regenerator with polarization-diversified loop configuration. 3.0-dB eye-diagram-based SNR improvement is achieved in the presence of 6.3-ps DGD for RZ signals with 18-ps pulsewidth.
Schemes of all-optical regeneration in polarization-division-multiplexing (PDM) systems are proposed and demonstrated with 2 10-Gb/s return-to-zero on–off-keying (RZ-OOK) transmission. Regeneration is achieved based on self-phase-modulation (SPM) effect and detuned filtering in highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) with a polarization-diversified loop configuration. Furthermore, the ability of mitigating...
We investigate effects of pattern dependence in SPM-based all-optical regenerators for PDM signals as we vary relative delays between two orthogonal bit sequences. Up to 4-dB OSNR fluctuation may occur as the delay changes.
A novel approach to generate frequency and pulse-width adjustable carrier signals using all-fiber components is proposed and demonstrated. The technique is using an all-fiber spectrum shaper which is consisted of a variable differential group delay (DGD) element and a bandwidth-tunable optical filter, to produce required optical power spectrum. Due to the frequency-to-time conversion in a dispersive...
We propose a new automatic optical polarization demultiplexing scheme for polarization-division-multiplexed (PDM) signals, which uses the tag light transmitted in a different but close wavelength to the data signal as the feedback control. The effectiveness of this scheme is demonstrated in a 10-Gb/s PDM optical system over 50-km SMF link.
