A novel optical phase modulation signal, the 8 phase-shift keying (8PSK) signal with 33% return-to-zero (RZ) clock, is generated and transmitted in 30-Gb/s optical downlink for broadband optical access application. At the transmitter, the 33% RZ clock is generated by one single-arm Mach-Zehnder modulator, and 8PSK optical signals are generated by cascading three phase modulators. At the receiver,...
We experimentally demonstrate pre-equalized W-band RoF system carrying 9.95-Gb/s OOK downlink signal with 19-km SMF-28 transmission and 1.5-m wireless delivery, with BER under 1×10-9 and receiver sensitivity reduction at the BER of 1×10-9 under 0.5dB.
We demonstrate a network node with two-hop transmission and all-optical label swapping for an O-OFDM 16QAM payload at 1.2Tb/s and an OOK label at 12.5Gb/s. The overall OSNR penalty after label swapping and cascaded transmission is less than 2dB.
A simplified full-duplex 60-GHz optical millimeter-wave access system is proposed and experimentally demonstrated with a 16-QAM-OFDM downlink generated by selected mapping (SLM). The system receiver is realized with optical heterodyne detection and electrical self-mixing down-conversion. In the experiment, 5-Gb/s 16-QAM-OFDM signals are transmitted over 42-km SMF-28 and a 0.4-m wireless channel. The...
It is experimentally demonstrated the DGD, GVD tolerance and receiver input power dynamic range can be improved by optimizing power imbalance in a 42.7 Gb/s partial-DPSK receiver. The optimized power ratio at different optical filter bandwidth is studied.
In this paper, we experimentally propose generation, transmission and reception of an optical OFDM-MSK signal in the architecture for seamless integration of radio over fiber system with WDM-PON. Our experimental results suggest that this scheme will be a promising candidate for next generation access network.
A novel scheme to generate coherent 112 optical sub-carriers with subcarrier spacing of 25 GHz is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By using these coherent optical subcarriers, we have successfully generated 10-Tbit/s (112×100 Gbit/s) single channel optical OFDM polarization multiplexing QPSK signal with the bandwidth of 2.8 THz and the optical signal noise ratio greater than 20 dB (0.1nm...
We propose an optical MSK modulation scheme to achieve the 100Gb/s MSK signal with constant envelope and continuous temporal phase shift. The investigation on the transmission performance clearly demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed scheme.
We demonstrate how to realize 400 Gb/s optical packet switching for the first time. The key functions of optical packet generation, label separation, colorless O-OFDM payload detection and wavelength conversion are realized.
A novel scheme to generate, transmit and receive an optical OFDM-CPM signal in the architecture for seamless integration of ROF system with 4 × 2.5Gb/s WDM-PON is proposed and experimentally validated.
We propose FSK/ASK re-modulation WDM-PON with coherent receiver. Apparent BER improvement is obtained by utilizing FSK image rejection receiver, especially for long distance transmission. Parameters in image rejection receiver which affect the system performance are analyzed. Results show that the presented scheme is promising in super long reach access network.
We propose algorithm to compensate frequency offset in optical coherent MSK system with little computation requirement. Simulations are performed to demonstrate the algorithm and its performance is excellent.
We propose a single-side band (SSB) Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) system based on OFDM-MSK modulation. In-phase/quadrature-phase (IQ) imbalance effect can significantly degrade the system performance. In order to obtain a better system performance, at the transmitter, the phase departure tolerance should be within 1 degree and the amplitude departure tolerance within 5% in the electrical domain, while in...
In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a novel 4-bit/symbol optical data format based on modulating dark return-to-zero (DRZ), differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK) and polarization-shift-keying (PoISK) for 100Gbit/s transmission system applications, and the transmission performance is investigated.
Optical minimum-shift keying exhibits a promising application for its high compact spectrum. In this paper, we propose a new heterodyne detection scheme to demodulate 40 Gb/s MSK signal, compare it with the homodyne detection, and investigate the performance of the receiver in different schemes.
We experimentally propose and demonstrate generation, transmission and reception of the optical OFDM-MSK modulation in WDM-PON. Our experimental results suggest that OFDM-MSK modulation scheme will be a promising candidate for future optical access network.
In this paper,all-optical OFDM transmitter and receiver with 5×20Gbit/s were simulated. We have analysed the principle of orthonogonal carrier generation, and obtained the optimal configuration for two, theree and five orthonogonal carriers. Through designing proper system parameters, the clearly eye diagrames were obtained. The BER curves of five orthonogonal signals were detected.
IQ imbalance can result in severe performance degradation in direct-detection architectures. We build two back-to-back direct-detection optical OFDM systems, which implement DSB and SSB transmission, respectively. The tolerance to IQ imbalance of them is analyzed and compared using EVM and SER. We conclude that the DSB system has a stronger robustness to IQ imbalance than the SSB system.
Two novel optical phase modulation formats, the staggered differential phase-shift keying (SDPSK) with return-to-zero (RZ) and carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ) shape, are proposed and compared by numerical simulation for 100 Gbit/s medium-range transmission applications. The demodulation of two phase formats can be achieved on 1 bit rate through only one Mach-Zehnder delay interferometer and...
A novel scheme to generate orthogonal modulation label based on differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) payload and duobinary RZ label has been proposed. The duobinary RZ label with tunable pulse-width and extinction ratio is generated by using a differential Mach-Zehnder modulator (DMZM). Our numerical simulation results have shown that both DPSK payload and duobinary RZ label have large receiver...
