In recent years, silicon photonics has attracted attention as an emerging technology for optical telecommunications and for optical interconnects in microelectronics. The refractive index contrast plays a fundamental role in determining the characteristics of an optical dielectric waveguide and a higher index contrast permits to move towards larger scales of integration and to access new devices and...
We propose and demonstrate a novel method for simultaneous chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization-mode-dispersion (PMD) monitoring using RF spectrum analysis. In this method, the clock frequency of single sideband of the optical signal is removed by using a narrow bandwidth fiber Bragg grating (FBG) notch filter. After photon detection of the filtered optical signal, the clock tone power of the...
An analytical approach is presented to evaluate the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of a multicore fiber (MCF) communication system with On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation scheme. The expressions of the signal power at the output of the different cores of the MCF with excitation to any one of the cores is found out along with the crosstalk due to coupling among the cores. Finally, the expression for...
Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) is one kind of fiber nonlinearities represent the fundamental limiting mechanisms to the amount of data that can be transmitted on a single optic fiber. To achieve high output power and high threshold power we compensate this SBS effect using Cross Phase Modulation (XPM). XPM. is one kind of non-linear phase modulation which occurs in Wave length Division Multiplexing...

The statistical impact of Coherent and Incoherent crosstalk contributions in a proposed single stage and a multi-stage L-WIXC configuration due to different optical propagation delay differences, bit duration etc. is compared both theoretically and analytically. Considering coherent and incoherent crosstalk analytical expressions of electric field, leakage crosstalk, Bit-Error-Rate (BER) and Power...

Multilevel line coding scheme such as Novel optical line code is applied to combat the effect of cross phase modulation in a single segment dispersive optical link. The analysis is carried out for an intensity modulated direct detection WDM system with various linecoding techniques like NRZ and novel optical order-1 code. Results are numerically evaluated in terms of bit error rate and power penalty...
The performance of a wireless communication system is analyzed considering multi-carrier OFDM with Multiple- Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) wireless channel and Space-Time Block Coding (STBC). Bit Error Rate (BER) expression for MIMO-OFDM system without and with STBC is presented considering fading and timing jitter with QPSK, DPSK and DQPSK modulation schemes. The performance results are evaluated...
An analytical approach to incorporate the cross-phase modulation (XPM) and self-phase modulation (SPM) to the calculation of system bit-error rate (BER) in a multispan intensity-modulation direct-detection (IM-DD) WDM system is presented in this paper. The effects of three important link parameters such as pump and probe power and span length, on the system performance have been investigated in terms...
An analytical approach to determine absolute power transfer due to cross-phase modulation (XPM) and self-phase modulation (SPM) from their spectral characteristics in a multispan intensity-modulation direct-detection (IM-DD) optical system is presented in this paper. Here, dependency of XPM and SPM power transfer on different link parameters like pump power, channel spacing, link length and, bitrate...
The spectral characteristics of cross-phase modulation (XPM) and self-phase modulation (SPM) in multi-span intensity-modulation direct-detection (IM-DD) optical systems are investigated. As constituent parameters, span-length and channel spacing, both are found to be strongly influential regarding XPM and SPM. Short period dispersion managed fibers (SPDMF), to suppress the XPM and SPM induced crosstalk,...

Theoretical analysis is carried out to evaluate the performance of a bidirectional optical cross connects (BOXCs) in a wave length division multiplexing (WDM) transmission system in the presence of homodyne crosstalk due to fiber Bragg...
Performance analysis is carried out for all optical wavelength converter based on cross-phase modulation in a DSF followed by a MZI. The numerical results are evaluated for DSF and SMF fibers. It is notice that DSF fiber offers higher efficiency than SMF.
Optical performance monitoring (OPM) and optical network management (ONM) are essential in building a reliable and high quality of service system as the optical transmission system continues to evolve towards higher data rates, increased wavelength density and longer transmission distances. Traditional OPM primarily focused on achieving the desired functionality and prove to be insufficient for next...

Further, forward error correction coding such as convolutional coding (CC) is also applied to improve the BER of OFDM-wireless communication system. Significant improvement in receiver performance is obtained by numerical computation.
