We demonstrate the occurrence of a negative refractive index regime in the far infrared range, ~2.4-3 THz. This is achieved by using transmission and reflection measurements under normal incidence in one and three layers of a mum-scale metamaterial consisting of pairs of short-slabs and continuous wires, fabricated by a photolithography procedure.
Any element or mechanism that can cause a spatial variation of charge density can contribute to the dielectric susceptibility of a structure. Particularly, we focus on metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structures that support interfacial polarisation. Since energy storage and dissipation are two aspects of the same phenomenon, the attainable large effective electric permittivity of such structures...
This paper presents a novel approach for designing miniaturized distributed lowpass filters. We propose to utilize microstrip transmission lines based on multilayer substrates which support slow-electromagnetic propagation. Based on such substrates, very compact LPFs are presented with cut-off frequencies in the low GHz region, with the measured insertion loss varying from 0.5-1.7 dB and with a return...
