In this paper the effects of saliency and cross-coupling in a cylindrical wound-rotor synchronous motor are evaluated within the operating region of the direct-axis, quadrature-axis and field excitations. In the calculation of the wound-rotor synchronous motor parameters, a finite element based approach (principle of frozen permeability) is followed to evaluate the inductances and flux linkages of...
Synchronous machines that are optimally designed using finite-element (FE) software, and control of such machines using powerful digital signal processors (DSPs), are commonplace today. With field-orientated control, the maximum-torque-per-ampere control strategy for unsaturated voltage conditions (below the base speed) is well known; the field-weakening strategy, however, could be rather complicated...
The layouts, formulation and winding factors of iron-and air-cored non-overlap winding permanent magnet machines are considered in this paper. The winding formulation gives information about the use of negative periodical boundary conditions in the finite element analysis. Particular attention is given to air-cored non-overlap windings, with entirely different results regarding optimal slot-pole combinations.
Optimally designed interior permanent magnet synchronous machines using finite element software, and control of such machines using powerful digital signal processing controllers, is common-place today. With field orientated control, the maximum torque per ampere control strategy for unsaturated voltage conditions (below base speed) is well known; the field weakening strategy however, can be rather...
