The mode coupling efficiency of ring-core fiber can be increased by optimizing the fiber structure parameter considering an S-bend model. The coupling coefficient is successfully controlled using ring-core fiber fabricated with Aeff of 290 μm2.
A low DMD trench assisted GI-fiber supporting LP01, LP11, LP21 and LP02 mode propagation is proposed. The maximum DMD of a fabricated 10.5 km-long fiber is |50| ps/km within the C+L band for four-mode operation.
We investigate an all-fiber type multimode erbium-doped fiber amplifier and control mode-dependent gain (MDG) using a long period grating. Measurement results show that the MDG can be changed in at least the −7∼5 dB range.
This paper presents an optical waveguide switch with a switching time of 1.26-1.39 ns in the C band and demonstrates optical packet switching for an optical packet stream with a 40-Gbps NRZ signal.
Recent progress on a low-cost and high-performance hybrid WDM module for fiber-to-the-home is presented. The low-cost module is achieved by employing a flip-chip bonding method with passive alignment using a spot-size converter integrated laser diode (SS-LD) and waveguide photodiodes (WGPDs) on a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) platform. It is clarified that the SS-LD and the WGPD provide high coupling...
