In this paper, recent progress on ultra-dense, space division multiplexed (SDM) optical transmission towards multi-Peta bit/s are reviewed. By using 6-mode 19-core fiber, we have demonstrated 2.05 Pbit/s transmission over 9.8 km just using C-band. High spatial multiplicity of 114 and ultra-high aggregate spectral efficiency of 456 bit/s/Hz/fiber have been achieved.
We show transmission experiments of 16-Nyquist-WDM 6-mode-multiplexed DP-QPSK signals over 9.8-km 6-mode 19-core fibers. The record spatial multiplicity of 114 and the aggregate spectral efficiency over 345 bit/s/Hz have been achieved.
We review Super-Nyquist WDM techniques for ultra-long-haul high-capacity transmission. In Super-Nyquist WDM systems, optical signals are multiplexed with the frequency spacing of less than baudrate. With the help of multi-core fibers with multi-core EDFA, 140.7-Tbit/s, 7 × 326-km transmission of 201-channel 25-GHz-spaced Super-Nyquist-WDM 100-Gbit/s DP-QPSK signals has been demonstrated, achieving...
