The operation of a practical and complete 1.7 Gbit/s coherent lightwave regenerator at lambda =1.5 mu m is reported. The regenerator is housed in a standard AT&T repeater shelf and consists of five plug-in subsystem modules including an FSK transmitter, a local oscillator laser, a polarisation diversity receiver, a 'cold start' AFC circuit and a 1.7 Gbit/s regenerator. The system has a receiver...
A simple method for increasing the dynamic range of a PIN-GaAs FET receiver is described. It requires no additional component connection at the input node of the receiver, and no sensitivity penalty is incurred. The 12.6 Mbit/s receiver described has a sensitivity of ?52.6 dBm and a dynamic range >44.8 dB optical (89.6 dB electrical).
