Space-division multiplexing (SDM) with multi-core/multi-mode fibers has potential to increase the transmission capacity drastically. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of trans-oceanic transmission towards beyond 100 Tbit/s using multi-core fibers. Experimental results using 7-core fibers/EDFAs are also presented.
The multicore fiber transmission technologies is promising candidate to increase the capacity per fiber. In this paper, ultra-long-haul transmission using multicore fiber and multicore EDFA is explained.
We have demonstrated 7 × 463-Gbit/s Optical OFDM transmission over 960 km of SSMF with EDFA-only amplification at 100-GHz WDM spacing. It is confirmed that the intra-channel penalty is dominant compared to inter-channel penalty.
